Okanagan Named Number 1 Wine Destination

The Okanagan Valley has been named the Number 1 Wine Destination in the world by The Huffington Post. Wine touring and tasting has become very popular around the world and many people vacation in regions populated with wineries. Wineries in the Okanagan boast tasting rooms with spectacular views of vineyards and our beautiful lakes. They also offer high class dining with wine pairing and special tours of vineyards and cellars. The wine industry has grown substantially over the past decade in the Okanagan, with new wineries to explore each year.

The Okanagan Valley earned the number one spot for Wine Destination in the world followed by Bordeaux, France; Finger Lakes, New York; Mendoza, Argentina; Willamette Valley, Oregon; Tuscany, Italy; Cape Town, South Africa; Napa & Sonoma, California; Barcelona, Spain; and Yarra Valley, Australia.

The Huffington Post said this about the Okanagan Valley in the article: “From the Canada/U.S. border, Highway 97 winds its way north from the summer vacation hotspot of Osoyoos, through the region’s viticulture center in Penticton, and past the mountain-framed shores of Okanagan Lake to Vernon. More than 60 grape varietals are grown here, including Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, as well as a variety of fruit wines. Okanagan wines are truly exceptional, and Penticton is an excellent place to start a tasting tour of the more than 100 wineries in the region.”
